Visit
the communities of Mill Bay, Shawnigan
Lake, Cobble Hill, and Cowichan
Bay.
Take the Mill Bay ferry across the
inlet to Brentwood Bay and the world-famous Butchart Gardens and
Victoria International Airport or board the E&N train in Victoria
and get off at Shawnigan Lake or Cobble Hill stations.
Nanaimo's ferry terminal is just an
hour north of here. Halfway there, you can visit the town of Chemainus,
famous for its murals.
A warm welcome awaits you at South
Cowichan's Bed & Breakfasts. Almost 60 rooms are available,
from the modest but comfortable to the scenic and luxurious - all
smoke free. Many are adult-oriented, but children and pets are welcome
at some. Each Bed & Breakfast is unique but one thing they all
have in common is warm and friendly hospitality. Ask your hosts
for suggestions to best enjoy your stay in the South Cowichan.
Five vineyards are alive and well
in the South Cowichan, as well as a cidery. In Cowichan Bay you
will find the second oldest grass courts in the Commonwealth (after
Wimbledon) at the South Cowichan Lawn Tennis Club, as well as the
Marine Ecology Centre.
At Shawnigan Lake you can visit the
"real" last spike on the cross-Canada railway or the Kinsol
Trestle. Shawnigan Lake and Mill Bay are also home to several private
boarding schools.
The area's main shopping is at Mill
Bay Centre and Cobble Hill has hosted its famous August Fair for
more than 85 years - part of the recent movie "Little Women"
was filmed there too.
You can play golf,
go swimming, waterskiing, boating,
fishing, canoeing and kayaking,
sailing, hiking, mountain
biking and birdwatching, take a cruise
or an airtour, or visit artisans and antique
shops.
